    sick kitty
    Home from Kelowna.

Left the cat for two days.

Oh, surprise! The cat went out and hurt herself Saturday morning, before we left, and didn't eat or drink all weekend for a sore mouth. She has an abscess on her little mouth, all puffy. We took her in to the vet, she's spending the night.

I was worried about leaving her for two whole days, but what could we do? Stay an extra night just to make sure we feed and pill the cat Sunday morning early before leaving? Nobody else was around to care for her this weekend, and she should have been all right like always. Nobody could have guessed that this would happen.

    Poor kitty.

Kelowna was fun, we did rock stuff and Nora stuff. Met Nora's grandson, 6 month old Lewis, who was cute and cried a bit. Boy, little ones cry a lot.

Hotel was lovely. I really enjoyed a weekend away with my sweetie.

I Love You, Man & Knowing
    I Love You, Man

Awkward comedy. You just want to shake Paul Rudd and yell "THAT NOT FUNNY". But it's good, and has its share of awkward laughs. I'd probably see it again.

    Knowing

WTF. And wtf. And what is wrong with your hair, Nicholas Cage. Get a new barber.

The movie is entertaining. At no point did I want to walk out, I wanted to see the end. And the ending ....

It's a scary movie too. Not jut "boo" scary, though it is that - deeply scary. Despite the cruddy special effects, the story ..; man. His hair was so bad.

One Week & something entirely forgettable ...
One Week was a love poem to Canada, a great movie. It was charming, funny, and probably meant to be inspiring. I liked that it was something different, with a great narrator. At one point, the video cut out, but sound continued, and an audience member says "This is where CBC radio takes over!"

It's billed as "what would you do if you had one week to live?" and yes, it goes over that prospect. But it also ... oh, it is hard to explain where the charm comes from.

I ... what on earth did I see? One Week was the second film, what came first?

    Let's see... OH

Julia Roberts and Clive Owen in Duplicity. How entirely silly. Why do they keep putting these two together? We all know that Closer was a disaster. It had its funny moments, and a special thanks to Paul Giamatti. It's a piece of fluff, nothing to rush out and see, but not to be avoided either.

    big sigh
So much to do. I feel I should be on top of things, but I suppose I have to wait till Wearable Art is through for much of it. Argh.

Went to the big Rock show this past weekend. Picked up some books, rocks, pearls. Andrew managed to buy some Mongolian blue-green agate from Karl - LUCKY GUY. Wow. It pays to be Andrew, I suppose. And Geoff Cameron insisted that Andrew should make me a luna agate pendant .. mmmmm. Hopefully he will.

Finished a big project for Bill today at work. Was satisfying.

Working here and there on Conquer Club map.

    must go.

    tangled webs
I'm reading Tangled Webs from Anne Bishop's Black Jewels series. My coworker loaned it to me, very good of her.

    IT'S TERRIBLE.

I'm 60 pages in. 30 pages ago, I wanted to quit. I still do. It's ridiculous. The characters have all lost some IQ points. Some sections are simply incoherent, such that I read it, and remember nothing, but know it wasn't important to the plot anyway.

And I cringe every time she uses her cliches. Dance with the Sadist. Sadist? He sounds like a mild-mannered yet somewhat brooding young man, who, despite being 1700 years old, still doesn't understand women.

    ARGH.

I'll read more just for the sake of doing so. Then I'll go back to Lord John and the Private Matter, which had me gasping in shock and LOL-ing as I read in bed last night. ♥ Gabaldon.

    Oscar picks
Since my newspaper didn't have a sheet where I could make my Oscar picks, I'll do it here!

    From here

Actor in a Leading Role: Sean Penn, for kissing all those men. But Mickey Rourke is most deserving.
Actor in a Supporting Role: Robert Downey Jr., even though Heath Ledger created the most iconic character.
Actress in a Leading Role: Kate Winslet for The Reader. Angelina Jolie did admirably, but her lipstick distracted. Meryl Streep just may get it for being Meryl Streep.
Actress in a Supporting Role: Penelope Cruz.
Animated Feature Film: Wall-E, by a landslide
Art Direction: Revolutionary Road, because I don't know why it is nominated in this category.
    Cinematography: Changeling, what's cinematography?
Costume Design: The Duchess, because it probably took the most sewing.
Directing: The Reader (okay, now ... drop your pants, good, good)
Documentary Feature: Encounters at the End of the World, cool!
Documentary Short: Smile Pinki, because I like the name.
Film Editing: Slumdog Millionaire. Frost/Nixon was also sharp. Button can't win, it was too long.
Foreign Language Film: Waltz With Bashir, it's the only one I've heard of.
Makeup: Hellboy II, it had me wondering!
Music (Score): Slumdog Millionaire, it's the only one that stood out. I didn't know Milk HAD a score.
Music (Song): Jai Ho (Slumdog Millionaire)
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire, without a doubt. Button, No. Frost/Nixon was good, but no. The Reader doesn't do well on Rotten Tomatoes (60%), making Milk the only other real contender. Milk stands a chance because of the Obama - hope - change we need thing.
Short Film (Animated): This Way Up, no reason. The French film may get it for being French.
Short Film (Live Action): New Boy, I have a one in five chance!
    Sound Editing: Wall-E
    Sound Mixing: Slumdog Millionaire
    Visual Effects: Iron Man
Writing (Adapted Screenplay): Frost/Nixon, it was sharp.
Writing (Original Screenplay): Happy-Go-Lucky is my pick, but I think the movie was mostly improvisational.

    Here goes nothing!

    Quantum of Solace & Twilight
It's midnight. The cat is curled awkwardly in my lap, hungry for some lovin'. She's been lonely, it seems, despite having six people in the house throughout the day.

It was chisping when I left the theatre this evening, thoroughly satisfied at having at least eaten most of the movies and getting my fill. I snuck into my car, which I had parked in a snowbank. Yes, I am well aware that half of the parking lot was plowed. But gosh darnit, we only get snow like this one in a decade, so I will park in the snowbank if I damn well choose!

    Ahem.

    Quantum of Solace

Watchable, but not terribly interesting. I fell asleep 3/4 through (ON PURPOSE) ... seriously. I was like ... well, this sucks, I'll take a nap. I missed one of those big "PLOT" scenes *finger quotes*

I liked the redheaded girl. I liked ah, I haven't seen Casino Royale, but I had kind of a love-hate thing with Daniel Craig. One scene it would be "awwwwright! go blondie!" and the next a mere "who the hell hired this guy? he's not that hot!" The movie lacked something. They went through all the motions of a Bond movie, but that's about it. Jesse complained about the shooting style. It wasn't that. It's just not a good movie. Give me Eagle vs. Shark any day.

    Twilight

I looked forward to it, really. That's always a mistake.

It was kinda lame. Some scenes were funny, others awkward. Sometimes I loved Edward, other times I felt what I felt when reading the book - what a stupid girl. And what a creeper. I liked Alice, of course.

The moving-fast things were quite silly. It would've been much better without the whoosh and trails left behind. just ... you know, like in a silent movies. Meh. More watchable than QOS, but that's about it.

    Bed, then.

    Christmas Adam
It's a new one to me, but today is Christmas Adam. If the blizzard does not arrive, I will celebrate by going to the movies (Quantum of Solace and Twilight.) If said blizzard arrives, I will raise my windshield wipers to the heavens and give the storm the uh... thumbs up. Dammit.

I lost one of my little grey gloves. Woe is me. I came to work wearing one glove and one mitten. They are not the same colour.

My dad bought a snowblower. He cleared me out a parking space by blowing all the snow into the street. Then a car got stuck. HA.

... frankly, I had a tough go of it too. And when I found my car last night, it had thick ice on the outside, and thin ice on the inside! ohhh the joys of being able to scrape my inner windshield instead of dealing with fog.

    I love my little car.
